I love Wycliffe's personality so much. Plus that whole section where he sings while he solos....... man, how awesome is that......

I don't get it. They're all playing real music, but that black guy obviously doesn't know what's going on. He's probably new to the instrument.

@cowboyforrest13 Perfectly natural. That's the power of the bones, baby!

I respectfully disagree with your conclusion nelson. You are comparing musical taste, not the musicians themselves. The point is that both these men are at the top of their field and that by comparing them it trivializes their contributions and accomplishments. Personal taste is one thing, tone quality for example is dependent on situation. But to compare these two is akin to a pissing contest, which diminishes them and music in general.

@thelbronius I have played with both of these people in real life through Masterclasses. Each of them has things that are better and worse than the other. Joe has, by far, better tone quality and Gordon has much more feel soul in his music. He is also much much more upbeat and energetic with his playing. Not one can be better than the other musically. The only way to compare is to what type of music you prefer.

7:40 Bolero. Ha!

I enjoyed listening to this.

I've heard both of these guys in the last 4 months. Both caused me to buy new pants on my way out.

Are some of you actually comparing alessi and gordon????
Are you crazy? You think you've earned enough cred to make a statement like that?
Your preferences should not be confused with fact.
These are both amazing musicians who happen to play trombone. If you can't hear that, then you need to listen harder.
p.s. I recently Joe Alessi and his sound is incredible, it must be heard live. I'm not sure there is a microphone that can capture his sound accurately.

Pimp my mozart.
trombonedemon- I'd have to disagree on that point. If it were as easy as just playing the notes then any professional could do it.
Sure, they're both incredible players. I mean, Alessi is a god at orchestral playing, but Wycliffe... The brother's got soul. As a jazz artist Wycliffe has an edge that's uniquely his; even if Alessi dedicated his life to jazz, there's no telling whether or not he'd be as great of an artist as Wycliffe.
Notes are notes, but music is much more than just that.

Overall: just insane playing from both players, and the trombone choir is great too!
