University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning hosted the Future of Design conference, Oct. 9 & 10, 2009. Thirty designers, critics and provocative thinkers brainstormed how design is evolving across various disciplines including architecture, landscape architecture, interactive, industrial, and interior design. @xpez If you watch folds, blobs, and boxes Lynn actually says that digital architecture is at the stage of the blobby ford taurus of the mid 90's. so, hes aware. I agree too, a lot of what he is proposing and doing is lacking in the concept area and heavy on the 'look what we can do'.

He seems to talk about things, objects, shapes, forms, etc as if they are mostly detached from the polysemic nature of language. Perhaps that's why everything seems unfamiliar and alien-like....until the last few minutes when everything digressed into koons-esque techno-kitsch, which really made me appreciate the purity of the alien shapes. But arent these alien shapes really just the result of the latest technology, if so, I suspect in the next decade a lot of this will seem "dated".
