In this clip, we view the planet Saturn from a distance, before diving towards its equatorial plane and into its glorious ring system. The ring particles are made almost entirely of water ice — which is why they are so bright — and range in size from about a centimetre to a few metres across. • Maybe because it would be quite difficult. You would have to make sure the probe's velocity exactly matched that of the particles before going into the ring plane, otherwise they would collide with it and damage it. And even if the speed were matched, the chances of collisions and damage are pretty high.

  • Any given particle is moving at the same speed as other particles in its vicinity. So the collisions, when they happen, will be quite gentle. Still, these are essentially just lumps of ice -- quite fragile. Fragmentation probably occurs.

  • I created it myself using software called 3DS Max.
