This pedestrian pavement is located next to Eastpoint Shopping Mall. It is on the side of the mall that is opposite to the May 2007 fatal accident involving a reversing truck which killed a young innocent schoolboy on a pedestrian walkway in front of Simei MRT. The pavement is heavily used by pedestrians, day and night, including elderly and school kids who come from nearby Changkat Primary School, the school that was attended by the unfortunate schoolboy. Everyday, motorcyclists ride their bikes (including the delivery bikes belonging to a pizza store at Eastpoint) off the adjacent street (Simei Street 6) and then onto the pavement, sometimes even entering from the main Simei Street 1 at least 50 metres away. They will ride and vroom their bikes on the pavement to reach this spot under some trees where it is their unofficial parking lot on the pavement itself, completely ignoring the HDB carpark just behind the pavement. Many motorcyclists do so even when pedestrians are walking on it! This happens daily, and nobody seems to do anything about it, because these reckless acts have never stopped. We are just waiting for innocent pedestrians to be knocked down by these irresponsible motorcyclists, and be seriously injured or fatally wounded, like the boy by the reversing truck.
