i figured out the answer to the question to wether he was british or australian, i even had one person tell me who was australian the answer, given at the end of the video, the video just gives clues to the gecko's words, to listen closely to them.

  • How the fuck does that sound even remotely Australian?

  • Australians tend to sound the same as the british the way they talk but the difference is that australians talk louder and less propper. they both can say mate but mainly australians say mate. i knew the gecko was british the whole time but it was a mystery for everybody.

  • Damn it!:)) All this time I thought he was Australian....lol

  • haha, if he were Australian he would probably be less jimmeny (like...polite and propper) he would speak a little louder and say mate and g'day:) but he's a cutie so he's an exception either way.

  • Good observations! I knew he was British! It's only obvious! haha 5 STARS!

  • haha, thank you.. i thought i was gonna get a lot of bad comments arguing about this.. i'm glad to know my observations are said to be rightXD hehe.

  • The voice is of an actor called Jake Wood, he's English and plays the part of Max Branning in the soap Eastenders on BBC TV. The ad where she says he is Australian is a play on the fact that Americans can never tell the difference. I know personally,i deal with it on a daily basis.

And do a search for Max Branning on YT and listen to the voice, then you'll know.

  • he has a cockney accent

  • He's English, lets see how they like it?? are the actors American or Canadian???

  • Maybe he could from New Zealand....Australia wants all the fame..lols

  • The accent is ESTUARY English, from the area around the Thames River inlet in London. Same accent as David Beckham. I'm a dialectologist and this happens to be an accent which I report on tomorrow. :D SOLVED!!!

  • funny. I'm an Aussie working with US folk all the time and they've told me for years I sound just like the Aussie Gecko on the Geico ads. Just watched it and its very obvious he's an inner Londoner accent...not Aust at all. Sounds like my cockney cousin. Mind you, when I lived in England, it was astounding how many people asked me if I was American... I think there's a US/England confusion on what Aust accents sound like. Just watch the Australia episode of Simpsons.... shocking.

  • The first gecko voice is a man from Wales.

  • Wow, it's pretty obvious to English and Aussie folk, I guess you Yanks don't really hear the accents that often.

  • If you wanted to know if he was British or Australian you could've just asked me.

    He's British.

  • He is a pure Londoner
