Arne Quinze. The Visitor. Public wooden installation in Beyrouth, Lebanon. 2009

Quinze has a predilection for the old days when people were still talking to each other on public squares. His installations are a way of reviving that spirit by bringing people together again and generating movement and social interaction. These public sculptures are created to evoke emotion, spark conversation, and make people stop in their tracks. The size and impact of the installations cannot be neglected and this has a huge impact on the urban and architectural setting of the neighborhood in which they are placed. Each installation brings a new spirit to its surrounding environment, a new atmosphere so that inhabitants sense that there's a changing, dynamic mood.

Although he realizes communal activities are diminishing, his installations are built to represent a symbolic and physical connection between people and to provoke reaction. He aims to intervene in the daily life of passersby confronted with these eye-catching sculptures. Quinze hopes a sole person will push himself to explore his creativity by seeing the installations, yet believes it is only the unity of individuals together that creates a reshaped reality. Arne Quinze uses metal, concrete, fluorescent paint, and wood for these installations. All the used wood for the temporary installations "bones and muscles" are fully regenerated and recycled into construction plates for new buildings after the deconstruction of the sculptures. Moreover, all used wood has the EFC-label, a European standard, for sustainable cut wood. For every tree cut, a new one is planted.

i remember when we accidentally came across the sculptor which seemed to appear from out of nowhere just taking a peak into the souq which is what we were doing we found it unbelievably coincidental and all fell in love with it's shear hidden magic. I found it such a cheeky installation to be hidden so well in the walls of the souq we nearly missed it but truly thank you Mr. Quinze =D
