    I remember watching this live on telly as a 14 year old, and everyone who remembers PB was right, he was a great man, and in a Touring Car, he was without peer.

    Bring back Group C cars, they were so much better than the tin covered go-carts with adjustable everything we see now days. The old Group C cars were closer to ordinary road cars than you'd think, and Peter Brock was THE MASTER at driving them.

  • Agreed - also I very much admire Allan Grice and Allan Moffat. And DJ of course. I used to countdown the days to watch these on telly - now apart from the 1000 - has lost it's spark.

  • So over v8 supercars - bring back multi makes and classes. Ps - my mate is a total FORD NUT....he can tell you the name of the production line mans third related cousin. XA XB is his vintage. restoring a P6 LTD. Just as I love the VK Calais 'star wars' dash....I think the console aircon / heater levers are awesome.

  • I was there , nearly got done for doing fish tails in my GTR LC,what a classic my mates took up a charger which got thrashed round the bullpit and camps etc,cops took the dizzy cap so they went and got another from a wrecker in town.Then it got caned till it died and after we'd had this massive fruit fight it was on its roof on fire with the channel 7 chopper filming it from above.

  • These were the best touring cars ever! Dayglo orange and also the race was very sad because it was classed as The Last of the Big Bangers!

  • i was at that race with dad as a13 yr old and i can still picture those two dayglo orange commodores coming over the line side by side. With the sun getting low they did glow, well in my young eyes they did.

    No point in discussing what could have been, best to stick to history and the facts relating to it.

    I should point out I'd never buy a Ford, not ever, I've been a GM fan since way back in the 1950's, because in my opinion, they have always produced a better, over all, more durable vehicle for their customers. The race track is just cream for people like me, in all fairness, it really isn't an honest reflection of the vehicles we actually buy.

  • @swagonwheels yeah but if nascar had not been so fucking single minded and purely stupid and allowed the 427 cammer engine to race i think all american makes would be alot more advanced now.. sadly no, and chev was stupid enough to dump its quad cam v8 even though they had a working prototype that made huge hp like the ford cammer.. (soc)

  • @fergus1494 There's no point in using Fords failings as something to be proud of. Ford had been producing technologically outdated, heavy old vehicles for their customers, for far too long, in their efforts for greater profits. If it wasn't for the efforts of people outside Fords factory, those ancient technological dinosaurs wouldn't have got a look in.

  • @swagonwheels they are. Im still impressed that a big heavy old falcon managed to keep up with a much more developed lighter commodore.

    Every organisation will do what it can to make itself a winner. Ford actually produced lightweight bodies for their Falcons which were discovered by an official wondering why they had a small sign on them saying do not push.

    Even in Formula One today, the very same new go faster bits are only allocated to the front runners of some of the teams.

    Lets face it, Holden have dominated here, but that's only because they're better than the Falcons, lol.

  • @swagonwheels keeping in mind all the bullshit you find that holden did to its privateer race teams to keep an edge.. One example being when a privateer team was faster, the dealer team wouldnt give them access to a part until a few mins before the race.. of course all within the rules as with other teams having access to the parts in the race its all legal.. I think there was and still is a fair bit of stuff going on behind the scenes in racing today..
