The "Deyata Kirula" national exhibition organised at the BMICH in Colombo to mark Sri Lanka's 60th independence anniversary opened today. Vice Chancellors of the universities patronised in the opening ceremony.

Uva Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chandra Embuldeniya, Sabaragamuwa Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Mahaliyanarachchi, Rajarata Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. A. Nandasena, Wayamba Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.G. Fonseka, Vice-Chancellor of the Aesthetic University Prof. Sarath Amunugama, Ruhuna Vice-Chancellor Prof. Susirith Mendis, Colombo Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shanika Hirimburegama, Peradeniya Vice-Chancellor Prof. H. Abeygunawardena, Moratuwa Vice-Chancellor Prof. M. Ranasinghe, Sri Jayawardenapura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Narada Warnasuriya and Kelaniya Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.J.S. Wijeratne participated. The exhibition showcases the projects launched under the Mahinda Chintana and the future programmes based on the 10-year development plan. The exhibition is organised with the contribution of public and private sector establishments.
Giving his views after the opening, Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said they wanted to talk from a common platform about the present when all challenges are being met, and to inform about what is anticipated under the Mahinda Chintana in the next decade. They have created a stage from which the people can communicate. He added that it put up to talk sensitively about the present and the future.
The chief guests joined in viewing the exhibition after the opening.

In his address, Minister Maithripala Sirisena said this exhibition is viewed by foreign tourists and members of diplomatic corps in addition to the local crowd. Therefore it is very important to make them aware of the resources, inventions and development. He referred to the need to holding an exhibition of this magnitude annually.
