The Enneagram as a tool for spiritual discernment.

"First the fall, and then the recovery from the fall, but both are the Mercy of God".

- Julian of Norwich

Excerpt from Richard Rohr's conference „The Enneagram. The Discernment of Spirits."

The Enneagram is an ancient spiritual tool for teaching discrimination between good and evil, between sin and virtue. It has foundations in all three of the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Sufi Islam, because the wisdom is universal, deep and life-changing for all searching peoples.

Fr. Richard is a Franciscan of the New Mexico province and the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation. He will be holding the conference "The Enneagram and Paradox" in Assisi, Italy from 29 May until 1 June, 2008.

  • Pacwa and the folk at ETWN have made attacking the Enneagram a ministry. In truth, one can look at the spiritual maturity of those teaching it from the religious standpoint and the benefit derived from those who have learned it. A person becomes aware of the personality template that colors how they view the world and how they respond in crisis. This frees them to make choices based upon (in the case of a Christian) the gospel instead of their unacknowledged predisposition.

  • The Enneagram is bogus. The only reason why it "works" for some is that, like anything out there, there is some truth to it. If anyone wants to know the real history behind it and why it's bogus, check out the article from Fr. Mitch Pacwa titled "Enneagram: A Modern Myth". He gives names behind it's creation and uses sound reasoning to debunk it. I would encourage all to read it. The article is available for free on the internet.

  • the "heretic" is a Catholic priest. do you realize what is involved in their training? this guy's books are awesome.

  • Great material! Where's the rest, though? Can't find it on YouTube darnit

  • Heretic!

  • @diekontrolleure Lol madness indeed!? I forgot I'd made this comment! Feel free to mail me and let me know what you'd specifically like in it and we can negotiate a price depending on it's content length. I'm using a lot of Helen Palmer and Riso/Hudson plus personal experience and adding binaural beats to it. I've had some real breakthroughs with it personally and with clients (plus EFT and Coaching too). I've made one's for 6's and 4's, and have a commision for a 2w3 and an 8w7. Namaste :-)

  • thats a great idea! i would like a hypnosis CD´s for my 5w4 madness

  • I love the Ennegram it's changed my life and the work I do with clients from a therapy point of view. I'm on the verge of creating hypnosis CD's for all the Enneatypes but am reading up more before I start. I am a 6/5 after all!?! Best wishes to all :-)

  • Enneagrams originate from Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, who were followers of Theosophy. Gurdjieff went on to start Anthrposophy (the wisdom of man). The Enneagram comes from Sufi mysticism and is pagan; it's an occult tool that is supposed to reveal who you are. But why 9 numbers? Who decides which number means what? That's the occult part of it. It's used the same way astrologers use astrology: hidden meanings.
