The McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in McKinney, Texas was "rocked" by a unique and new musical program on September 8, 2007. The North Texas Chapter (NTC) of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) presented two world class artists in their first formal collaboration. The "Red White & Blue Ragtime Revue" featured famed theatre organist, Dave Wickerham at the console of the MPAC Mighty Wurlitzer (3/17) and acclaimed ragtime pianist Dick Kroeckel at the Steinway (Boston) Grand Piano. Dave and Dick discovered each other at impromptu jam sessions in Colorado and Wichita, KS. The duo quickly realized that they had something special. When NTC's show producer, Rick Mathews heard the duo "having lots of fun" at the Little River Studio in suburban Wichita, he immediately approached the two artists to perform a show for the NTC in a scheduled September concert slot. Dave and Dick, after some quick discussions and checking of calendars, agreed to the show and the date. The jam sessions were wonderful, but the show was nothing less than incredible. Not only was the music a feast for the ears, but the combined stage presence of the two and their banter between themselves and the audience, made for a show that the audience wished never would conclude. Dave and Dick were having such a good time that they were having difficulty trying to keep the show to a mere two hours of actual music time, not including the intermission. The North Texas Chapter was so pleased with the show and audience response that the Chapter booked the duo for a reprise appearance which occurred in September of 2008.

Please stay tuned to www.TexasTalkies.com for the release of the 2008 performance.

  • What a good arrangement, this is just so great; I wish I had been there!

  • Few songs convey the spirit of the times in which they were written as does 'Doin' The Raccoon'

    Really great performance.

    Thanks for posting it.

    I bought the DVD/CD.

  • Fantastic music

  • @eeks1982 Thanks! I wanted to know so I could buy the sheet music for it.

  • @vigilante11485

the song in the introduction is a part of Saint Louis Blues, by W.C Handy

  • Very cool! By the way, what's the name of the song playing during the intro. If anyone could tell me, it'd be much appreciated.

  • The world would be a far better place if all its inhabits stopped whatever they are doing at precisely the same time everyday and started Doin' the Raccoon.

  • Was in York last weekend. There was a trad jazz busking group playing this - I immediately forgot what I was doing , recognised the tune and want to listen. It does kick arse.
