This contemplative prayer service at the Stone Church of Willow Glen in San Jose, California comes from the ecumenical community of Taize, France. Each prayer is formed of several briefly worded chants sung over and over again. Repeating the chants helps to deepen our communal prayer. In between the chants we have a scripture reading followed by silence to allow the words to sink deep into our hearts. Near the conclusion of the service, we are invited to light candles and pray at the cross. We bring joys and concerns, prayers for loved ones, and prayers for the world, entrusting the prayers of our hearts to Christ.
