Great Video.

SCRUMPYMAN:- you have just summed up what most of the UK do, they only think of firefighters when they are in danger. I do agree that the other volunteer's services don't get as much respect as they should but they do "volunteer" to do it.

Hmm looking at the retained (part-time) pay scales for North Yorkshire alone its only a few thousand a year according to the fire brigade union. even part-time, they still work 4 days for 24 hours at a time

personally i think it's an utter discrace in how low firefighters wages are in the UK, don't know about the US. Something that hasn't been properly addressed by the government. So discraceful how firefighters are out-paid by some who work a calculater in an office for a few hours

You said it perfectly..... as a fire fighter in Greater Manchester I love the job I do and wouldn't wanna do anything else. Like you said its great when people show appreciation for the work not just fire fighters but all the 999 services carry out. by creating things like this video......fantastic video thanks

My partner was a retained firefighter for 8 & a half years. I know first hand the hours they work when their pagers go off at 2 in the morning and dont come home till the next evening! All of you out there slagging them off should bare in mind that they are on call pretty much 24/7 unless at their other jobs which in my eyes makes them extreamley hard working individuals which is alot more than most of the human population could handle! They truely are lifesavers and should get the recognition!!

Because British fire fighter are not fighting forest fires in your country are their lives worth less. You need to think before you type.The opening line's of your posts below are shocking.

@smarshall83 and plus last year about 18 died at a huge forest fire where 3 fires joined as 1, where there were 3000 fire fighters, 1600 vehicles and 9 air support vehicles where attending,

Since 1939 approximately 1300 British fire fighters have lost their lives whilst on duty. Are you telling me none of them knew what it was to be a fire fighter? This is not about who is best, its about acknowledging the risks and sacrifices fire fighters across the globe make to protect the public.

no offense but no british fire fighter knows what beying a FIRE fighter means, they have never worked 48 hours straight with a hose in their hands surrounded by 40 meter high flames, they have never seen 4 friends beeying traped in a circle of fire before their own eyes, they have never known the feeling of beeying stuck in a forest fire, fire all around you know way out, you fall to your knees saying good bye

What other job pays u for sleeping? and gives you enough time off to do another job?.Theres forty applications for every job going. Its a well known easy number.Brave men-maybe so but then so are a lot of others.includeing unpaid members of the public.They are so scared of losing thier well paid jobs that they will let kids throw stones at them.
