I am reading Marcus Borgs book the heart of Christianity which I found difficult to read being a fan of the bible. Marcus is however right about many of the points he makes. The bible is more than literal more than factual it is historical and parabolic

I would only ask you to please keep an open mind and at least consider taking what the Bible teaches you at face value. It may have something important to say to you. Don't be boxed in beforehand by Borg's secularist assumptions and presuppositions regarding Biblical interpretation.

Meaningful as what? As a therapeutic, comforting fable? Have you read the entire New Testament? If you do not find that as 'meaningful' as Borg's writings, perhaps you should admit that you are agnostic like Borg, and only find the Bible to be interesting from a sociological/psychological/lit
erary point of view.
As a devoted Christian of many years who has done a fair bit of research on the matters of Christian history and theology, I firmly think that Borg has a better idea of what Christianity is all about than most fundamentalist/evangelical Christians do.
