Before they can be taken serious in their critique of government spending, Tea Partiers, Republicans and conservatives in general must finally address America's costly foreign policy.

  • I'm a TEA Party attendee, and you are right about the hypocrisy of most TEA Party activists when it comes to war.

But the BIG area of TEA Party hypocrisy is not really the war. It's entitlement spending, including programs that most TEA Party folks support, like social security and medicare.

Try holding a sign up at a TEA Party event that says "Privatize Social Security" or "End Medicare" and see what happens.

  • Aggressive war is the health of the state. The state grows by war & citizens are enslaved & taxed beyond measure. This is the lesson Rome taught 1500 years ago: over extended, overreaching empire is doomed to collapse; a lesson the Hannitys, the Palins, the Cheneys, & yes, the Glenn Becks miss altogether & the thing Ron Paul gets. The imperial aggression since 1861 is anathema to a free & prosperous people & contrary to our Founding ideals. Say no to empire. Otherwise sink deeper into slavery.

  • @VailPatriot Nobody is able to take our freedom from outside. Our largest threat is from within. Our own abortionclinics murder more babies than any enemy ever could. We are the evil invaders of other nations and need to stop.

  • @Drac39 He's friggin' amazing.

  • DEAD RIGHT.

  • @VailPatriot The question remains; how will you cut the debt whilst spending that kind of money on defense?? the math doesnt add up.

  • You need a larger audience Jack, you are by far the only logical political thinker out there

  • @VailPatriot How was Iraq a threat? Not only did they not have assembled weapons of mass destruction, it would have been decades before they could have even hoped to use them. How is the war in Afghanistan helping us? We went, we saw, and the only thing to come out of it was to createmore enemies. Osama is not there, nor will he be there as long as we are. To say that the POTUS is directing national security by invading other countries is bullshit, it is a war. Trust me I was there.

  • Recognizing the need for military action against hostile threats to our nation and its citizens, and taking the necessary action to defend them is not hypocrisy, nor is it unconstitutional. War has been declared on US. The Executive has the power to direct the national defense without Congress declaring war. The Democrat-controlled Congress could cut off funding of the President's decision if it really believed it's own anti-war hype and propaganda.

This is why the LP remains impotent.

  • @VailPatriot

Actually, the Constitution authorizes Congress to declare war, which it didn't do. Instead, it delegated responsibility to the President.

Constitution also grants Congress authority to issue letters of marque and reprisal. Ron Paul introduced the Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001, making him the only C-man who actually followed constitutional procedure.

As for "better than waiting for them to come here - AGAIN," there seems to be plenty of dispute as to who "them" really are.

  • What a heaping steaming load of Libertarian crap. Like the liberal idiots who decried "blood for oil," the author of this video doesn't know the meaning of "Empire."

National Defense is NOT a "euphemism" but a Constitutional obligation. Stopping threats abroad is FAR better than waiting for them to come here - AGAIN.

Like many Tea Partiers, I like much of the Libertarian message, but as long as they continue spewing this sort of nonsense the Libertarian Party will remain marginalized.

  • Conservative Tea Party-ers can't have it both ways. If you want smaller government and reduce spending you have to go after the largest part of the budget and that is defense spending. We don't need to be fighting two wars against dirt farmers and cave dwellers that have no real army, navy and air force that is no threat to this country. Time to bring our Troops back home to their famlies
