  • It was written by William Whiting in England in 1860. It is often sung in church services on land and at sea. On Sunday April 14th 1912 (the day the Titanic struck the iceberg) passengers in 1st and 2nd class sang it during that morning's church service. The infamous words everyone remembers were: "For those in peril on the seas" because the passengers without realizing it were singing about their own impending doom.

  • Thanks for posting, it's great to hear something to truly unique that very few can appreciate.

  • @AshleyBluewater2010 it was the last hymn sung at the Sunday worship service held on the morning before the Titanic sank. It's considered fitting because it's originally a poem written by an Englishman asking for God's blessing for a safe passage across the Atlantic for someone dear to him. The line "For those in peril on the sea" is particularly appropriate.

  • what year did this song come out, why is it tied to the Titanic?

  • titanic !!
