According to Mugen's sales department, approximately 1 out 10 CR-Z in Japan is equipped with one or more of their body kit. That is why Mugen is so devoted to developing a more sporty spec version.

This "Pre Production" version is what they think the market could accept, and revealing the car at Tokyo Auto Salon became their biggest chance for market survey. Compared to the "CR-Z RR Concept", this car is more realistic - doesn't wear too many carbon fiber bodykit which will seriously affect the production cost, and has less widened fenders that won't trouble the owners to buy 4 new sets of wheels and tires.

The highlight is the Mugen super charger. Pushing out 179ps and 20.9kgfm of torque, the Pre-Production model laps Tsukuba Circuit at 1.08'612 which is 5.6 seconds faster than the original CR-Z. As far as I know, this car is as fast, or even faster than FD2 Civic Type R or S2000.

Could a 1.5 liter FF hybrid become the next generation Type-R? The Tsukuba lap time could be the answer.

At Tokyo Auto Salon, Mugen seemed to be asking three kinds of questions to the audiences. Whether they liked the looks and spec, how much you would pay for that, and how you want it - either as a completed car or by individual parts.

We still don't know when and how it's coming, but it seemed possible that this car will be released to market in the near future.

  • Chitaka, sorry don't know your real name. So is mugen coming out with engine supercharger and this aero kit?

I'm asking cause the orange one in this film was a one off concept, but the title says this green one is a pre production

  • @Ge0vone Hi. The orange one was their concept car, but this green one is the actual (or something closer to) production version. Besides the S/C and bodykit, they'll also have suspension, full brake set, final gear, etc. My guessing is that, they won't just release a completed car like Civic RR, but release parts individually so that existing CR-Z owners can have them as well.
