Marking the 65th anniversary of the Flag Raising, this is my tribute to all the USMC and USN men who served on Iwo Jima and sacrificed so greatly. Their deeds affected the lives of every American of that time and the following generations. Also included are two photos of the first flag raising by Louis Lowery.

I ran the flag raising in slow motion so that the viewer can catch what all the men did during that brief instant, then cut to the famous Joe Rosenthal photo. Note that Ira Hayes' hands are out of contact with the pole for only a second, which happened to be when Rosenthal clicked the shutter on his camera. Haye's had just as much participation in the raising as anyone else, contrary to what some activists want people to know.

  • Seven Marines have just recently died in a tragic helicopter accident. Let this symbolic image fill our hearts with inspiraton and admiration for these honorable Marines. These individuals died serving their country. Today is the 67th year anniversery of this event so remember all the Marines that have fought and bled so that this fine country can thrive. Semper fi.

  • Not bad. I love it. But we also must remember the first flag raising. For those Marines also sacrificed just as much as these, which partook of this staged flag raising. Good history. Good post AZODUDE! Thank you.
