McCain rails against bear DNA earmark with Palin

At a rally with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) made his usual joke mocking an earmark to study bear DNA. McCain neglected to mention that as Governor Palin requested an earmark to fund studies on the "genetics of harbor seals."

It's OK to spend trillions in Iraq, but any money for science should be questioned, according to McCain, who doesn't understand wildlife biology. DNA studies on populations of animals that are under stress (bears in Montana) are important. You must know the genetic relatedness between the different populations of a species (to prevent inbreeding), for management decisions. This is money for basic science. The lack of understanding of basic science by the politicians of both parties is shameful.

He's talking about the efforts to save the nearly extinct wild blackfooted ferrets that were nearly wiped out by farmers in the midwest. We wouldnt need that money to save them from extinction if repubs would grow some brains and pass laws to control farmers and corporations from mindlesly destroying everything that gets in their way.

Their really riding McCain for calling this study "pork barrel spending" because they need to get the bear off the endangered list to open up logging-drilling etc. NOTICE that this report was published 9/16/2008 but it gives a count on the number of bears in 2004. If McCain would not of made such a stink over this research, they probably never would of published this report and continued to suck up millions to continue working in their own private playground without the loggers, ranchers, etc.

When the Korean gov't tried to reverse itself on a trade treaty, over ONE MILLIONS Koreans took to the streets of Seoul and the whole gov't offered to resign. These assholes lie blatantly in our faces... and we just buy another latte. We are pathetic and get the gov't we deserve and unfortunately, it will likely be president mccain and sarah palin one heartbeat away. Sick!!!
