Actually, look at exit polls- the wealthiest Americans voted for Obama. Democrats are perfectly happy to wave other people's money in front of the faces of the poor in the hopes of winning their votes. The GOP still have a sense of shame and will not do this. How are regular people helped by becoming reliant on the government dole?
