I loved this album when it was released, but after revisiting their earlier albums (especially Leviathan and CTS), I'm not a big fan of it anymore. Not because it's not heavy enough, but maybe because there's no recurring theme. The Hunter is not based on anything in particular, which makes it kind of looser. Dunno if I want that from Mastodon. There are some great tracks on the album (Black Tongue, Spectrelight, The Hunter, Blasteroid), but also some I don't like (OHNF, COTB, Creature Lives).

I am a hardcore mastodon fan...and I think I agree with you...

I was so excited when this came out...and then i was listening to it, thinking NOW...now its gonna take me...im gonna be swept away by the unforgiving current of mastodon...and it din happen...its like i was rooting for mastodon to do it the whole time...

for me, Remission is the best mastodon album yet...clooosely followed by Leviathan...BUT...I feel mastodon is just trying to explore new creative ground n thats GOOD NEWS for all!

@theneedledrop Whether or not I agree with you, you have some very thoughtful reviews, and you certainly have a way with words that depict imagery and memories, which I totally admire. However, I think you're way off on this one--I think it's their best album ever. Accessible does not = bad. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!

@xCorby94 I know what you mean, but on Blood Mountain and even more on Crack the Skye, there were a shit ton of clean melodies. Back in like Remission and Leviathan however...well yeah.

Id probably give it 7.5/10 doesn't exactly fit my taste but it grows on you.

iIs the band you mentioned Garvella Tok? they sound like the kind of band i need to listen to. Baroness and Torche are the bees knees as well if anyone hasn't heard them they should definitely check them out?
