Princess Diana remembered 10 years later

Hello on this Friday, August 30, 2007. I'm Kristin Volk with a UPI top news headline.

Today marks the 10 anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. A series of tributes and a royal memorial service took place in London to honor the Princess. Diana's friends and family gathered for the ceremony, including Queen Elizabeth the second, Diana's former husband, Prince Charles and her son's Princes Harry and William. However, Charles's wife Camilla decided to stay away amid criticism that it would be inappropriate for her to be there. A decade ago, Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris.

Senator Larry Craig said in his post-arrest interview that the arresting officer deceived him. An audiotape of that interview was released yesterday. On the tape, Craig denied he was trying to engage in lewd behavior in an airport bathroom. He said he was in the bathroom for its intended purpose and told the officers on tape that he wasn't gay and didn't do those kinds of things. The Idaho Senator pleaded guilty earlier this month to allegations that he was trying to solicit sex in a Minneapolis airport bathroom.


Actor Fred Thompson is making it official next week. Thompson, who's also a former Tennessee senator, says he'll declare his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination September 6. He says he'll make the announcement in a webcast and then tour Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire. Thompson says the response he's received makes him confident that he has an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country.

The Justice Department inspector general is looking into whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have intentionally misled Congress in sworn testimony. This investigation is apparently part of the inspector general's ongoing investigation into firings of several U.S. attorneys last year. Gonzales' role in the terrorist surveillance program is also being reviewed. The Attorney General is stepping down next month.

Diana wasn't the main target and she is still alive.

Who was the target? Dodi, the movie producer. I was a

NASA engineer thrown out by the Klan and

homeless when I met Diana in NYC in 1995 and gave her

a copy of my Federal Civil Rights case vs NASA and Bush

and a copy of my TV show. I met her after that also.
