*Please Read This* Alright, so I decided to start over and make a new set of tutorials because of a recent change in my style. I made this switch to be more accurate and authentic, and will change the tutorials I have posted as a result.

In this video I go through tools and materials that I use in my construction process and their general prices. This way you can get yourself a shopping list and get a sense of the starting cost for this. One of the main reasons I keep to the hand tools is to keep the initial cost down, but if this still seems expensive, then I would suggest trying to borrow tools from a neighbor or family member. Just a quick note, this is just the construction materials, not the finishing or painting supplies. Those will be covered in a separate tutorial.

Things to Keep in MInd:

These tutorials are designed to show you my process of making a wooden replica katana. The goal is to recreate the visual and construction aspects of the sword as a work of art. These are not designed to be used for play fights or heavy contact, rather as a showpiece or stage prop.

During construction, there is going to be some risk of injury from the use of sharp knives, chisels, and other tools, AND I take NO responsibility for these risks. Be smart about your personal safety. Your best option is to wear a decent pair of gloves, wear eye protection, and a dust mask when appropriate. For you younger swordmakers, it would be best to have a parent help, and as a bonus, they may have some helpful design ideas.

  • Hey! Why do you need 5 pieces of wood?? Why do I need so many?

    Thanks for the awesome videos!!!

  • @cuellarmariana Well, you make all the parts of the sword with that wood, and that 5 pieces includes some extra in case of error. Very welcome.

  • can i use just a regular metal file from a multi-tool knife?will a bonesaw from a swiss army multi-tool knife work as a replacement for a coping saw?wood a Surgical mask work instead of a dust mask?

  • @imnotokayfan The rule of thumb is that if it works it works. The tools listed are the ones I've found most effective, but I can't say for the bonesaw or the multi-tool, as I haven't used them. But Wallu is right on the mask, it's the dust we're worried about.

  • what wood you recomen(i know that you said on the vid but i could not heard it verry well) or if you can e-mail me a list of things to buy that would be verry helpful, but if you cant \hust tell me the name of the wood and where i could find it

    PS. thank for the vid, it help me a lot

  • No problem, I would go with 1/4" pine or aspen wood, and you can probably find it at a lumber yard or hardware store, and maybe a craft/hobby store. As for the list of stuff to get, check out my deviantart gallery, I've got the tools listed out.

  • hi, could you give me a few websites where i can find this wood because i cannot find it anywhere, thanks :)

  • I am thinking of making a katana using this tutorial, but where are all of the other parts??? I xan only find part 3, 8.1,8.2,8.3 and part 10 D:!!! Please reply asap so i can get to work :)

  • @worldwizards super glue is messy and dries thick. Wood glue is stronger with wood and will allow the wood pieces to sit flush.

  • Is wood glue preferable over super glue, and if so, why?

  • I saw that you told someone else on the comments you had a list on your deviantart gallery, could you maybe give me the link to it? I looked on your deviant but I didn't see it, I'm probably not looking in the right place ^^;;
