  • Gluten free as a "weight loss diet" is a fad. There is no evidence that gluten free causes weight loss. That is what the TV segment was about. Recommendations to decrease gluten or eliminate it are individualized and part of medical and/or medical nutrition therapy. This was a public TV segment focused on dieting and gluten free, not autism or any other health condition. It is not misleading.

  • @BeccaScritchRD I will definitely concede that just replacing nonGF cookies, and other goodies like that, with their GF counterparts does not necessarily mean one will lose weight. My point is that there's no real harm in adopting a GF lifestyle, even in the absence of a CD Dx. I felt that was obscured here. Most people that I know who have gone GF, whatever the reason, have been forced, by the very nature of the diet, to eat all around healthier foods. Perhaps that was discussed earlier on...

  • Sorry but this video is misleading. First, there's no harm in going gluten free, if you can afford it. Yes, GF foods are expensive, and it's a lot of hard work, so I highly doubt it's that big of a fad. Second, individuals with CD - while having the most severe form of allergy - are not the only people who benefit from removing gluten completely and to claim otherwise is bad medical advice. While he doesn't have confirmed CD, my autistic son benefits greatly from a gluten (and casein) free diet.

  • Most Celiacs are under weight so the GF diet actually puts weight on us. I know it did me.
