  • In fact, flak vest like the M-55 was twice far better than the PASGT vest that had kevlar. The M-55 can stop some 7.62 NATO while the PASGT can't even stop a pistol round.

  • @Bf2009 My bad - I thought you meant they used metal plates in Korea.

  • @lowcostvideos Whoa, this video's a blast from the past, isn't it? Anyway, I was talking about the flak jackets fielded by the RAF. They used manganese segments woven into a heavy ballistic nylon vest. The subsequent U.S. flak jacket was also fielded to infantry and as a result used Doron plate in an otherwise identical vest to save weight, as weight isn't as much of an issue for bomber crews as it is an infantryman who has to march for miles at a time.

  • @Bf2009 They weren't metal plates, they were Doron (which is like fiberglass).

  • My Flak Jacket had nylon and some ceramic plates. My helmet was steel.

Heavy stuff and made nylon and ceramic debris project into wounds.

    NICE

  • Not the original flak jackets, those were decent. The original flak jacket had metal plates which provided protection against low-velocity pistol rounds. You're talking about the M-1952A and M-69 vests which had no plates.

  • A Flak Jacket only protected from Sharpnel which was found in grenades mortar/artillary shells when exploded it was 100% useless agaginst bullets
