I used to have this on vinyl...I think the "B" side was a song called the thing...As I went out for a walk one bright and sunny day, I spied a great big open box that was right in my way....I think was the start of it...

Hold the note and change the key...that's called Goofus! Love that song!

I last heard that song 40+ years ago on a scratchy 78 record - great to hear it again, with such a zestful delivery!

The couesnophone is an instrument similar to a saxaphone but with keys similar to those on a piano which when pressed allow reeds to vibrate. It could held like a saxaphone or layed flat and played through a hose. Sometimes refered to as a a 'queenophone' or a goofus. As in the lyrics about how the saxaphone 'sounds a little goofus to me'.
A goofus would not sound like a saxaphone. Your playing is wonderful I really enjoyed it and the song.

Hey, this is 1st class entertainment! Really fun and musically so well done! Just have a look at my channel (see video response). You will find another version of this tune there, but it is an instrumental by a German band on an old 78rpm record.
Dude, my Mama loved this...who originally did this one?

Thanks. I think Wayne King (the Waltz King) had the big hit with this in about 1930. Others did it too. I learned it from a Milton Brown record.
