There is a lot of cycle parking at the railway station in Assen, as there is at all Dutch railway stations. However, due to the popularity of cycling, the parking is always full.
The parking area shown is that at just one side of the line. There is a similar bike park on the other side of the line which you reach by a different exit. Note the ease of pushing a bike off the train and across the line in order to get out of the station. There is no need to climb stairs or take a lift.
Assen is a small city of around 63000 people who make around 70000 journeys by bike each day.

This is a great little video. I was lucky enough to live in the Netherlands for a short while back in 2003, and I had a great time. I remember coming out of the of main trainstation in the centre of Amsterdam and seeing this immense sea of bikes, it was truly mind blowing! I can't wait to go back again.
Great video!
Peace.
