  • Beautiful. The first part is "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen" (often translated as "Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming"), which Michael Praetorius adapted and set in Book VI of his Musae Sioniae, from 1609. The second is a familiar Swedish polska. Anyone know which one?

  • @multemusic They just call it "Julpolska". You may also hear it from 1 minute into "Jul i Folkton - Goderafton & Julpolska (Cassels, 2009)".

  • @janus1351 Yes indeed, it is Det är en ros and Nu har vi ljus combined.

  • No this is NOT a version of " Nu har vi ljus...". It's a version of the the Christmas psalm " Det är en ros utsprungen". Look it up here on Youtube and compare them. It's obvious if you're familiar with the psalm and have a musical ear.

  • @multemusic

It sounds like they have rearranged the song Nu har vi ljus.

Nu har vi ljus här i vårt hus

    Julen är kommen, hopp tralalala.

Barnen i ring dansa omkring, dansa omkring.

Granen står så grön och grann i stugan,

granen står så grön och grann i stugan.

    Tralala, tralalalala, tralalalalalalalala.

  • Wonderful! Ale is one of the best thing ever happend to nordic folkmusic!

And yes the polska they play is a variation of "Nu är det jul".

  • There is a Scandinavian tune (found in Norway, Sweden and Denmark) called "Nu är det jul igen", sometimes played as a masurka. But your comment reminded me of one possibility. It's a Swedish Christmas song called "Nu har vi ljus här i vårt hus". The polska tune they're playing shares some similarities with it.

  • To my knowledge, it's a swedish christmas song called "Nu är det jul" (It's christmas now, sort of.)
