Yes, I think this is broadly correct. It is the individual who is the extremist, not the religion. BUT religion DOES provide a safe haven for extremists: they naturally move towards religion where they can find 'justification' for their actions.

i once farted and accidently soiled myself. that was pretty extreme.
but seriously, i give this video four out of ten. not shit, but not great. also, i kinda like the guys beard. i'd have to say that beards are one of my favorite things about the islams. almost makes up for terrorism.
lol, im kidding.
it doesn't make up for it at all.
Extremism isn't in the nature of a rational human. The problem is not the human.
The problem is conditioning your outlook on life such that your actions are dictated by blind faith, not on reason and logic.
As soon as you disregard the need for tangible evidence to found your understanding of the universe, you justify to yourself proposterous and sometimes horrific beleifs and actions, as is the case with extremism.
Religion - Blind faith.
Science - Logic, rationality and evidence.
The end.

Agreed, and 2 go a little further, human evolution has taught us different sets of survival tools, like the old " Us against THEM" type behavior that still exists today on many fronts. Other survival tools like logic, science and rational thinking "can" sway us from our tribal human bondage we harbor. For instance, just " knowing" that religions are competitive towards each othe "SHOULD" be the reason why we should stay away from them, as they will get us in a lot of emotional trouble.
