Two friends and I climbed to the top of Mount Katahdin on July 26th, 2008. We left the roaring brook parking lot at 0630, went to Chimney pond (arrived around 0830 and from there took the Dudley trail to the top of Pamola Peak arriving at around 1045, from there we then took Knifes Edge, to Baxter Peak arriving around 1215. We stayed up there for about an hour and began our decent at approximately 1320 and descended down the Saddle Trail, from there we went back to Chimney pond and returned the long way to the Roaring Brook parking lot. It was a great adventure.

  • Any advice for some hikers looking to climb Katahdin?

  • @doubleds100 Just go there and enjoy yourself. Pack plenty of snack food and water.

START EARLY. My dad and I didn't get back in time and ended up walking 3 miles in pitch black with just a headlight back to our tent.

  • I did the knifes edge 15 or 16 years ago, in 1995 or 1996. Didn't really know what I was getting myself into. And yes it was scary at one point, I remember walking a narrow edge, holding on with just my fingertips, looking almost straight down several thousand feet. Learned a good life lesson - I had gotten myself into this, now it was up to me to get myself out of it! And I did. I got it done. Lost most of my toenails though, they fell off a few days later. I think my boots were too short.

  • did u meet any through hikers with the trail name 'silo johnson'?

  • Hey man, i stood right there. This brings back good memories.

  • be prepared for one of the most beautiful views in the east...and keep your water full, fill em up when you have the chance
