The stock market had another interesting day of trading.
The indices spent most of the day in negative territory following troublesome
news out of the financial sector, but then staged a late-day recovery effort
that was led by large-cap tech stocks.
Oil prices surpassed $90 a barrel for the first time Thursday as the falling
dollar drew new foreign investors and speculators to dollar-denominated energy
futures.
Light, sweet crude for November delivery hit $90.02 in electronic trading
Thursday evening before returning to settle at a record $89.47.
Google Inc.'s (GOOG) third-quarter profit soared 46 percent, the company said Thursday.
The Mountain View-based company earned 1.07 billion, or $3.38 per share, for the
three months ended in September.
Those numbers are up from $2.36 per share, at the same time last year.

pharmaceutical, and genetics markets.
