Pruning grape vines is best done by cutting back 90 percent of the new growth each year, which trains the grapes to grow and blossom a bit fuller every year after that. Maintain grape vines with instructions from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening.

  • thank you so much for this video- very helpful. I read lots of instructions and could not visualize what they were saying. I needed to see a picture, exactly what you were showing! And to those people on this site who are so mean and rude- get a life! no need to be so bitter, you only hurt your chances of finding happiness. Negative attracts negativity and repells positive people away from you.

  • This broad is an idiot. You can't make a video on how to prune and show pictures from a book. She has never pruned a grape vine and you should just go to the library and get the book.

  • @rcarian1 ... Growing grapes for 40 year eh ... why would you prune in January if your'e a person living in Australia ? I think you are inward looking thinking where you are is the centre of vine growing. OK , train them "anyway" but theres a reason why vines are trained by cetain methods and thats to give maximum sunlight exposure. Hmm OK , we let you win ... you are obviously an expert !

  • Very good instuctional video. Thank you ... but .. can I just say , I also prune grapes and I do it with my teeth then swallow them. When I prune a grape VINE I do it with secatures and I don't eat the prunings. Know what I mean wink wink.

  • Thanks for the easy to understand instructions Yolanda! This spring I will plant my first two grape vines.

  • We got ourselves a retard. Are you telling us how to prune grapes or reading your kids a bedtime story. Stick to your day job which I hope for your sake doesn't have anything to do with plants

  • why are there kids screaming in the background?

  • when is the best time to wetter it and how often ?

  • Why is this featured?

It looks like you dont know what youre talking about and just reading out of a book.

  • Prune in January. Grapes can be trained in any way. Just leave enough fruiting wood for the next season's harvest. Get a book from the library and don't pay any attention to this idiot in the video. Me? Growing grapes for over 40 years. All varieties
