PT wants me to practice putting more weight on the leg/achilles area by walking whenever possible. I've had 7 therapy sessions and wanted to give a display of walking an area of about 40feet/12meters. I cannot really do stairs yet. One stair is about the max right now.

  • hi there..i have been watching your video quite often. You did a great job on inspiring people like me who had similar accident whilst playing hoops.Im from Australia and 8 weeks post op.Im still on camboot and trying to be positive with everything. When did you have your surgery by the way and when did you started to walk unaided?

  • @rjtamondong09 Greetings to you down under! ;) Sorry to hear of your injury. I had surgery 3days after the initial rupture. I started physio in the 7-8th week post op. I was walking (CAREFULLY) unaided by crutches around the 5th or 6th week in physio. I had a GREAT therapist and I think that makes a major difference. I know it can be VERY tough to remain positive, but do your best to remain so. This will pass and you will be changed, but don't allow negative thoughts to consume you.

  • hi iv'e been watching ur vids since i got my injury oct 26 2010.

im getting my cast removed next week and i was wondering wat happends after that. i injured my tendon playing volleyball and i got my surgery done.

but along the line of rehab and post cast wat happends?

how often can you go to rehab or dose going to rehab more often even make a difference?

and what about being able to walk to your normal self agian?

  • @KaGomeRuleZ4Ever Hello. Thanks for your comment. I went to rehab one week after getting my cast removed and was there for 3X/week for 3.5mos. I felt it made a BIG difference in my recovery. I'm able to run now, but am still not 100% w/strength and speed. I feel great though because it could me MUCH worse. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best of luck to you and your recovery. :)

  • I ruptured the same leg as well, no surgery but your videos helped considerably with my confidence. I had alot of anxiety and depression with this injury man thanks for the vids.

  • @eye414eye

Again, thank you for the kind words. It NEVER gets old to read how people can relate to me and/or appreciate my amateur videos. Ha!

Anxiety is definitely something that can easily creep in when dealing with this injury. Sounds like you are in a good mental place these days though. That's great. :)

  • I am walking now!! This time next year I am hoping to dunk again...If not the jump shot will be so crispy I may not have to. "Respect the J" will be the motto for all of us now! Achilles patients or Achilles patience?

  • @CyberCacique1 on thing i would suggest that you do during your recovery is to strength the glutes by way of leg press; increase hip flexibility; and make certain that you are increasing your core strength. many injuries take place due to disproportioned strength...it is also important to stretch. dynamic stretching before competing or wrkg out. static stretching after working out or watching television. there is this band that i used from a company called jump stretch. its a huge rubberband.

  • @slim4real

Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Not sure too many dunkers come through and check these vids out, but if one can tell me he rose from the ashes like you did, then I'm feeling good about that! :) Does it count if I was only able to dunk a volleyball? LOL!

As long as I can *hopefully* get back to runnin' the floor and getting the rock to the open man, I'll be doing alright. :)

  • clank...clank....clank....clank...lol

i am laughing because i know the feeling bro!!! when i tore my achilles, i wanted to get back out there in 6-9 months, but reality told me that i could not. it takes about a year to feel at least 80 percent on a regular basis...believe it or not, i still had to keep my foot elevated months after removing removing the boot because there was still scar tissue and swelling when i walked...i did it in 2007...to date i am still a dunker...so dont worry!
