We built this robot system in 4 weeks thanks to QuikDrive and Bradley's Metalworks. The project was a lot of hard work, but we pulled it off.

  • did you try calling the 1-800 number? Even trial and error could get you the pin out, but RDIs don't trigger programs.

Also, the manual has all the information you need for pinouts and that sort of thing.

    Next time, call the hotline.

  • I did call the hotline, they couldn't help. The 12 pin connector was soldered and tested. The ROBOT ITSELF was unable to operate the 12 pin connector. We finally figured out that the robot had about a dozen or so "background" programs running that confused the system. To fix it, we would have had to wipe the hard drive clean and then reboot using software we didn't have in our possession so it would have made it difficult.

  • OMG.! You guys have a lot of ironing out to do on this project, are you running at 10%..?? Have you tried turning the key to T2.??

Fanuc are crap at giving info on the output pins and it is a wierd pinout as well. If you are restricted with 12pins then try a 'device net' system, 4 pins +earth all on a binary network, sweet.

  • We had 3 weeks to do this whole thing, believe me, we know...they suck.

what software program do you use?

    thx

  • RDI's can trigger programs if there's a macro running, or by the monitor command...and that can get really confusing if there are caution signals leading around (like those that get activated by work-zones and the like)...

  • jees what a couple of dorks

  • Jeez, switch from T1 to T2 at least. Oh and change those trajectories from FINE to CNT100. T1 on FINE is murderously slow.

Nice though, I love that drilling bit, it looks so life-like at that point.

  • There are always a lot of suggestions with improvements - people don't realize you guys don't usually have a ton of time to make these work. Nice job :)

  • It's a student robot - made slow to allow students to get out of the way before their arms are severed off (which requires a heck of a lot of form filling if this happens)

  • cost of robot $100,000. Cost of immigrant to do the the same thing $5.5 and hour. Your saving $99,994.5 with massive productivitiy gains.
