Kitchen table sessions, Vernon NJ: I wrote this song about three weeks ago and finally made it down to Jersey to lay it down. From l-r: Me singing lead and playing my dad's 1971 Martin D-35, my dad Chris O. Brune playing his dobro we bought him for a birthday present, my brother Chris J. Brune on the fiddle, and Katie Matheson - my bro's significant other and a helluva singer - on harmony vocals. My mom, Dorothea, took the video for us.

Lyrics:
Verse 1
Came home last night, found you tappin out the echo
You left when you walked out the door.
I heard you in the rain that kept climbin up my window
Babe I couldn't miss you any more
Call me tonight, let your voice be my lifeline
Sink me in what you have to say
I'm saying all these words to tell you that I love you
In the silence between the night and day.

Verse 2
I strung my wedding band on the chain of your memory
When I fell asleep on your side of my heart
I need to keep you close in this journey of your leaving,
You shatter all my songs before they start
I won't be your pain and I can't be your comfort
The one in the space you left behind
The clock keeps tapping on as I'm writing all these words down
To paint your face by numbers in the night.

Verse 3
All I ever sing is the distance that I miss you
The years that keep on creeping past our door
Another line of gray writes the story of our love song
And how I miss your comfort in the dawn
Call me tonight, let my voice be your lifeline
I'll wrap you in the velvet of my song
When this journey ends, I'll be waiting in the morning
For you, babe, when this long day is done.
