  • Ta for putting this up,

I'm only 14 years old and I really want to be a jockey when Im older, but Im already quite tall,

do you really have to be small to be a jockey? D:

  • D

Thanks for your note? There are somejockeys who are tall. The main thing is weight and being light really helps.

D - I will try and forward your note to Dave Wilson the jockey we did this feature on.

Oh - Where are you from? And how did you come across our show and hope you and en joy it and tell your friends

    Best

    Tom

  • How old do you have to be to get your jockey license? I am turning 13 soon and I have just started exersizing horses. We race endurance so I am usually on arabians but I am training my fathers thoroughbred. Oh, andhow often should you work a horse and for about how long? (I usually do three laps which is six ferlongs for us) Thank you for putting this video up, it helps a lot!

  • @MidnightDarkFire No you dont have to be small, you just have to keep you weight under 60kilos around 40-60 kilos you really have to be, but if you couldnt keep your weight that low, you can always be a strapper and exercise the horses, insted of racing

  • I help train race horses with my friends parents who do it full time. I can't see myself doing anythingelse with my life. I love horse racing it's my life. :)

  • @HockeyMonster61 you will have to wait until you are 16 to get an exercise license. If there are any TB training stables in your area, try to get hired and ride there. Make a lot of connections. You have to get with a trainer who can get you to get your exercise license.

  • I'm only 12 years old and I haven't I want to become a jockey. I ride regualy all the time but what's the next step?

  • @skyandkit You can be a jump jockey, or even if you put your mind to it you could be a flat racing jockey. John M. Pollard "Red" was 5 foot 7.5 inches and he weighed 114 pounds, so jump jockey might be better for you, but whatever you want to do is what you should do.

  • @skyandkit you'll start with a 10 lb bug, meaning you'll have to weigh at least 10 pounds under the required weight of the race. Max. when you start would be around 105-110. Being 6 ft, I highly doubt you can make this weight without killing yourself first.

  • @MidnightDarkFire being light helps......

  • We are 19 and will be going to Olds College for an Exercise Rider/ Jockey training program and will be making our dream a reality, since we was small we wanted to be a jockey and finnaly soon we will be on the race track Whoot..Thanks for this Vid
