Grammy Award-winning and #1 hit folk-song of The Kingston Trio: Tom Dooley!

Lyrics:
(Intro) Throughout history
There've been many songs written about the eternal triangle
This next one tells the story of a Mr Grayson, a beautiful woman
And a condemned man named Tom Dooley...
When the sun rises tomorrow, Tom Dooley... must hang...
[Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die]
I met her on the mountain
There I took her life
Met her on the mountain
Stabbed her with my knife
[Chorus]
This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Hadn't a-been for Grayson
I'd a-been in Tennessee
[Chorus]
This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Down in some lonesome valley
Hangin' from a white oak tree
[ending chorus]

  • I am 63 and have been listening to this song since 1960. It is really wonderful and also al the songs by Kigston Trio. Thanks for uploading

  • today in music class we learned the shift to rock 'n' roll music. my teacher said that the teenagers liked that sort of music better because the text was more appealing to them. she played "tutti frutti" by little richard and then "tom dooley". i was so fascinated by the calm of this song. i've never really heard folk music before. it was something totally new for me, actually. i wonder why people these days always require something new. Why cant they just play the died out music again?

  • @FarstaTrollet i'm an 18 years old boy now, and i love it.

i saw and spoke to a lot of artists.

I saw Paul McCartney, Elton John Cliff richard and many more.

Klaus Voormann bass player of John Lennon en George Harrison i spoke with him, also with Graham Gouldman of the group 10CC.

It's sad that the most of the younger people don't like this music anymore.

Greetings from a 18 years old boy who loved music.
