A demonstration video about using the Digitech vocal 300 multi-effects processor pedal with a saxophone.

Here I demo a couple of synth effects that I created. Imagine no sax sound and only synth... it's a unique and crazy sound.

This is a great pedal for horns because of the XLR input, allowing for use of an instrument mic. There are 40 programmable patches and I've set up 20 so far that I'm still dialing in. There are many parameters to adjust for each patch which allows for unique sounds and patches that give you just what you want.

In these recordings the camera mic picked up my sax very clearly because of the closeness and the fact that I was facing it, but the amp with the post effect sound was further behind and beside me, and not up too loud, so you hear a lot of my clean sound in the mix here. This processor allows the user to set a wet/dry mix as well, but when I'm on stage in a loud club the sax sound only comes through the system post-fx, and the acoustic sound is lost in the mix (again, that is unless I mix it into the patch ;)

  • Dude, you sound great! Way to go! Inspires me. Have you checked out an old east coast band called the Bloomdaddies? Seamus Blake and Chris Cheek were all over pedal boards. Awesome fun stuff. All the best to you! Thanks again for the vid.

  • @gnumusic Seamus Blake is an amazing sax player, still playing and I love his stuff. The Bloomdaddies were a great band. I also enjoy Metalwood (Brad Turner & Mike Murley).

  • From 0:50 to 1:45, sounds like ring modulation. That can come in handy for some awesome breakout-wild jazz solos, especially ones that involve many trills up a 2nd and 3rd.

  • @Pikachu25sci90vt great idea. thanks!

  • Man! This video you uploaded was just amazing to solve some problems that I had using effects to my sax... I was about to buy a RP 300 but the vocal is the most perfect for saxes, don´t you think?

  • @antoniorsluis yeah it is really great!

  • the Tom Morrello of Saxophone

  • @CamTheCat We are on the same page, my friend! Kelly Jefferson? Another GREAT Canadian tenor player. I'm a bit out of the loop nowadays, but Kelly blew my head off the last time I heard him. Also, have you checked out the Beardyman stuff? A beatbox/singer guy with a couple of KaossPads. Always wondered how that might apply to sax... All the best!

  • Dude....very nice. It's similar to some of the stuff on the Josh Redman elastic stuff, but you're doing it with a 200 dollar rig! Anyway, sweet playing man; I really enjoyed it!

  • @CamTheCat no prob! :)
