  • Thanks for the comments, hope you all enjoyed the miniseries. I have seen the whole thing and it is really awesome. The story is beautifully told, great art direction, set decoration, amazing music. Lot of people can learn a lot about life just watching this. The performances are remarkable, specially Kate Winslet's :)

  • This mini series is never going to be anything but ... SHIT! How can anyone think Mildred Pierce can be remade? The original film was a contemporary movie not set in the past, I think movies set in the past never work anyway, people do not have the same bodies, they don't carry themselves the same way, the attitude the lighting the colours ... it is just a waste of time! why writers can't come up with a good story now a day ... why do they have to copy?

  • @markolondonuk

,,first of all, the mini series are based ON THE NOVEL, not the book. It was clearly stated by Winslet. Movies can be great no matter if they are set in the past or present. If you see the best ones are based on the past, and they are fully recognized.

  • @kolombi26 It depends what you call "best one"! I love old movies and they are virtually always set in the present.

Comparing the mini series with the old film it is unavoidable, I am sure Winslet watch the original for inspirations ... naturally she will try to overcast Joan Crawford but ... lets face it! She isn't even remotely comparable as an actress!

  • @markolondonuk

Now I see you are judging this beacause of the Winlet's involvement right?. I bet you have never seen one of her movies. ( except for Titanic, I think)

  • Fuck you Evan Rachel Wood for constantly associating yourself with things I like and looking good in the subsequently. Thankfully, you're always playing someone hatable.

  • @GlanceofGlory

i don't get why u hate her that much,.,. so why do u wanna see the series?

  • @kolombi26 I think Joan Crawford was a bit more of a fighter in this character, she had that pragmatic look about her that made the part more exciting and confrontational .

  • Ive seen the first 3 parts of this mini series and I think it is fantastic. They have captured the look and feel of the 1930's superbly.

  • The original Mildred Pierce was the greatest. However, I wish I could see this remake. I love Kate Winslet, even though I think she's too young to play "Mildred". As a little girl, I remembered seeing this for the first time in 1968 and thinking when I grow up I want to be like Mildred Pierce. I no longer have HBO but I would like to see this remake. Thank you for showing it.

  • kate winslet is very good, but no one comes close to Joan Crawford, especially today. The mini series is being made after the book, and i dont like james m cain's books i like the movies that were made after his books, his books are all gritty and trashy, and the movies were the opposite. thats why this look like its in the 20's and has sex scenes. becuase im guessing that how the book was.

  • It looks as though they are going to go into more depth with this mini-series since it's in parts. I'm sure it will have a different feel, and of course if anyone has seen the original film it is a classic. I think that the remake is going to be pretty good as well, because it does go into depth with Evan Rachel Wood being spoiled, naughty, sinister, whorish...whereas the original focused more on Mildred. I can't wait to see it.

  • @markolondonuk

Exactly. You can't make perfect, perfect-er.

  • Oh, HELL no.

  • I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS, I LOVE BOTH JOAN AND KATE BUT IM GONNA HAVE TO SEE THIS TO JUDGE.

  • @markolondonuk The fact is that pretty much everything has been done in some form so there really is no such thing as an original storyline anymore because it's been stolen from something already done in some respect. I get irritated with the remaking of things only if it is rushed through and the remake does not do the original justice. This actually looks like it would be an interesting one to watch. Judge it on its own merits.
