Does the ball have to hit the ground or is that just the way it's bowled?

@WorldChallenge technically as long as it's below the waist without bouncing it's a legal ball, however most good players can hit that type of ball (called a full toss ) very easily. so it's best to bounce it , as you can use the seam to get movement both ways as well as high bounce.

we should have cricket in US. i think alot of people would play since we are so diversed.

@silasha G'day , no, anyone of the 11 players on the field can bowl if they have the skill. some players are predominantly batsman , but bowl occasionally , a few can do both bat & bowl pretty well , and a few can't hold a bat hardly at all.

Cricket is such an interesting sport to watch. Bowling well is a lot harder than it looks.

what suitable for Americans is t20.internationals. it's short and fun. the ground should not be much long or short. there should be maximum oppotunities for fans to enjoy the match. in sri lanka t20 match is more like a party. it is better if american cricket board can arrange a premier league like indian premier league or sri lankan premier league

In the late 80s a professional Aussie left arm spinner played for my club in England for a season (which was cool!). He used to get frustrated with the standard of umpiring in the league though. One game, he went up for a stone cold LBW and got turned down. Tired of this, when he hit the pads next ball (he was a great bowler) and yelled very loudly: "Howthefuckwasthatone!" Shocked, the umpire triggered the guy. Marvellous appeal, that.

@WorldChallenge No, it doesn't have to bounce. As long as it is below waist height when it reaches the batter OR it has bounced just once and it is within reach of the batter.... i.e. not bouncing way over the batter's head or way to either side.
