Epcos Power Factor Correction Capacitors. Assembly Requirements. Capacitors used in power factor correction systems create required current phase advance to compensate for phase lag in inductive load circuits. These are powerful capacitors whose assembly must conform to certain safety and trouble free operation requirements. Let's consider key requirements for power capacitor assembly. Power capacitors must be installed in cool and well-ventilated room, if possible, at a distance from heat-emitting objects, heating units and direct solar radiation. You should provide enough space over the capacitor. Do not fasten the capacitor by upper surface or forged pattern so as to prevent the capacitor from longitudinal expansion and to avoid safety system failures caused by excessive pressure inside the package. To ensure proper cooling, assemble capacitors at least 20 mm away from each other. A threaded bolt at the package bottom serves for grounding purposes. Capacitors should be directly connected to the grounding system or other grounded conducting elements. Remove the paint coating at the contact area to ensure good and reliable contact and high current flow. PhaseCap and WindCap capacitors may be assembled both in vertical and horizontal position. Please, be sure to arrange proper cooling. Place capacitors inside the package at the bottom to avoid heating thereof by other system's elements. PhaseCap Premium, PhaseCap HD, WindCap and PhiCap capacitors are equipped with discharge resistors intended for capacitor discharging before their connection to the automatic correction systems and protecting personnel from electric shock. When you connect capacitor leads, use flexible copper connecting cables. Do no use rigid cables! Do not connect discharge resistors between the upper surface of the capacitor's package and the connecting cable to avoid short circuits! Please, be sure that resistors are well-fastened and there is enough space between individual resistors as well as between resistors and metal structures. Discharge resistors must not be in contact with any metal components or lead insulation.
