On this, the anniversary of the famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech given by Patrick Henry, Jesse Richard, the founder of TvNewsLIES.org, sets the record straight on patriotism.
Do you think that supporting your government is patriotic? Do you think that dissent is the highest form of patriotism? Do you think that given the choice between losing your liberty and losing your life you should give up your life, willingly? Do you really believe that your only choices when it comes to protecting your liberty are to live free, or to die? Think again...on all counts!
Take a few minutes and listen to this refresher course on what liberty and patriotism really are.
Your commentary is wrong because your fundamental understanding of the original quote is wrong. Someone who says "Give me liberty or give me death" isn't proclaiming that they will succumb, but that they will make the ultimate sacrifice to uphold and defend.
The statements are not intended to represent MY liberty, or the liberty of the individual making the statement, but rather the concept of liberty for all. In my case, when I use that phrase, I am thinking of the freedom of my children.
