The problem Hyundai had in 1997 was they were primarily seen as the purveyor of cheap econoboxes in the USA, and although their cars were much better than the 1980s Excel, the lineup of Accents, Elantras and Sonatas was still seen as budget transportation, each car under-cutting (but also under-performing) compared to class rivals. I think Hyundai has turned the corner but there is still a small perceived gap between Hyundai (and Kia) and Hondas, Toyotas etc. Reputations can be hard to change!

Dont hate! Look at all the features this hyundai had back in 1997! Built in map, tv and advanced air bags. Too bad it was not in the US at that time, it would have kicked some major competitive ass!
