In other occasions, the Chinese destroyed heritage sites (e.g. Longmen caves near Luoyang, during the cultural revolution), whereas Muslims kept sites of other religions (e.g. the Blue Mosque in Istanbul), It depends on specific people rather than a specific religion.

How about the Buddha Statues in the Valley of Bamian, Afghanistan - are/were they even bigger? the islamist Taliban destroyed them, why actually? tourists should no longer bring money to afganistan or what?
