  • He had such a great technique, it's so good to watch his hands. Thank you for putting up his videos. I like and admire him even if those tempo changes...

  • As one of the organists of the grand orgue in Rouen and former student of Latry, I shall be very honest in my OPINION: Vierne would have been shocked if he heard this recording of his Toccata, raped and teared apart. Yves could do much better than this, but compared to Cochereau there was a big gap in quality at all points. The piece played by Latry is the right way and many others will agree with this, considering the other performances on youtube and the ones still played all over the world.

  • I quite agree. He is ruining the Toccata. He must have been in an AWFUL hurry.

  • Would love to hear that piece live........

    GENIAL!!!!

  • Yves Devernay , il mito , la storia , la leggenda !

  • @chamade216 Possibly. He's an incredible improviser!

  • @voixhumaine I have to agree with what you said, but watching/hearing him play is such fun! Also I wouldn't be surprised if he played the organ drunk most of the time.

  • May I insert a humble but honest comment? I could never understand how Devernay could be elevated to the rank of "genius" or "pure class" interpret. Sincerely. He could play any piece without any fake note, true, granted. But he did it just as a drunk man. There is no real tempo, it's always shifting, moving without any reason, and worst: when I least expect it. I get lost every bar, and don't even recog what he plays sometimes. Far away from what Dupre advocated, or Latry played this very piece

  • his sense of phrasing is aweful... if he has any at all... the tempo chosen does not fit the piece either.
