heat pumps are 300% efficient down to a certain temperature, the most eff gas furnace is 95%. unless you live in a caveman built home its always cheaper to heat a home via heat pump above 30degrees. I work on all brands, everyday ...and whoever has led you to believe that Rheem is quality equipment must be a good salesman. I literally "lol" at your statement, but its not your fault. I wish you the best of luck with the setup you went with!

@Gb755c i agree

It's too bad the system didn't work very well, considering it was only installed in '96.

Damn the blowers on those things are loud.

sounds like you needed to find a company that knew how to fix/install heat pumps properly, and why the switch from Trane to Rheem? Don't take it personally but from experience you have been mislead. Trane dual fuel (gas furnace/heat pump combo) would have been the best replacement to go with, hands down.

@soccerpapaw Heat pumps would not suit my house due to it's size and electrical load. The HP won't satisfy the thermostat until the furnace kicks in, since its cheaper to heat with gas it's not worth it. The hot air from the furnace will heat the house quick with a lower bill. Any brand A/C, basic or high efficiency models you buy have a 10-15 year life span. Heat pumps have a shorter life span since they run more often. Rheem is well built. Dual fuel systems may not be the best down the road.

@Gb755c The only reasons they're loud is because the doors are off. And my camera isnt really the best quality.
