In this GIMP tutorial you'll learn some techniques to remove the background from an image with hair. Cut out hair. I'm explaining step by step in this "How to in GIMP" so you'll know how to make a cut out of an image with hair.

I'm using layer masks, the clone tool and give some tips on the burn tool in GIMP.

A lot of the techiniques I used I've learned and/or adapted from this video from blackmoondev:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEIORoqIi4c

The reason I adapated it is because I tried to make it easy to follow for gimp beginners as well.

Here's a link to the image I used:

  • I've watched a few vids of yours, and I have to say I love that you don't beat around the bush, you don't have music playing in the background and you don't take forever to say what you mean. I'm pretty good with the things I know about Gimp and I'm great at figuring stuff out as I go but, darnnit, there are just some things someone needs to teach you. You're a GREAT teacher! Thanks for the vids. I would also love to know what you use to record your desktop and how to Zoom also! Thanks!

  • @jllove1992

In the main menu bar of any opened image go to Windows, that's the one immediatly before Help. In the drop down menu you'll find one named 'Layers, Channels, Paths...'. Open it and voila!

  • bedankt goed gedaan !

  • what gimp is she using?!?!?!?! all i have is a toolbox...not whatever her layers were showing up on.

  • I want to do the same thing you're doing with the hair, but a font that was already in a photo. Although the problem is, it says I can't add an alpha channel to gimp unless I have 2 layers...

  • Thank you

  • @clgoering How can you not understand her?

  • YOU ARE THE BEST GOO!!!
