My sincerest condolences go out to the Rock community of New York-We in Chicago feel your pain, for as you may know already, we lost our Alt. Rock station as well-god how I miss Q101

@erseysson27: Actually the first NYC based FM news station was WNWS on 97.1 back in the 1970's. That format did not last long and the station became WYNY. The one thing that stood out about that station and now WEMP is the high fidelity which you did not get on AM news stations.

I'm an old WPIX-FM listener from back in the day at 101.9. Loved "DQ", Dennis Quinn, Les Marshak and the other jocks at the time. I was also a WQCD "Smooth Jazz" fan later as the format changed at 101.9. I was never a big fan of RXP however. Now 101.9 tries with FM News at the same frequency. After listening briefly I'm not sold on the new format. I heard the same news story three times in less than 45 minutes! It was not earth shattering news which deserved that type of coverage either.

every station is replaced by pop music
Chicago and New York have the same pain when it comes to losing our beloved rock stations. NYC lost RXP and we here in Chicago lost Q101 (101.1).
Good music is dying in this world, and now all that's left is either Justin Beiber, pop trash, hipster talk radio, and gangsta rap crap.
