Paris, FRANCE - 1997 European Figure Skating Championships, Men's Free Skate - Andrejs Vlaschenko of Germany placed 6th in the Free Skate, and that was enough to not only drop him from 3rd to 6th Place overall, but his placement would alter the standings of the Top 4 skaters from: 1. Zagorodniuk, 2. Urmanov, 3. Kulik. 4. Candeloro "to" the Final Standings of 1. Urmanov, 2. Candeloro, 3. Zagorodniuk, 4. Kulik. Urmanov would be tied along with Candeloro and Zagorodniuk in Factored Placements with 4.0 each. However, Urmanov would win the Gold on the tiebreaker of him winning the Free Skate. The media would cry foul about a scoring system where the placements can keep changing. In order to appease the media, the ISU would soon adopt changes to the judging system by creating the dreadful OBO ("One Beats One") System.
