  • Further to my previous post, one of the session musicians for this album was Haruomi Hosono, who was later the founder of Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), a hugely influential pioneering electro/techno/synthpop band.

YMO were also the first band to use the Roland TR-808 rhythm machine, and it was probably because Hosono already had experience with an early Roland rhythm machine in Osamu Kitajima's "Benzaiten" in 1974.

  • This album was very ahead of its time back in 1974. It was quite possibly the first electronic rock album to use electronic drums and rhythm machines. If you listen to the beats, for example, it sounds a lot like the Roland TR-808 beats that later became hugely popular in the 80s and 90s. I assume the album probably used an early Roland rhythm machine to produce those beats.

  • @perueckenkopf

I find that somewhat odd, because Kraftwerk later didn't use a rhythm machine for their more well known 1975 album Autobahn. Do you know which rhythm machine that "Kraftwerk 2" used?

  • @Jagged85 : Actually, there were several earlier recordings featuring a rhythm machine, for example "Kraftwerk 2" (1971). Anyway, Benzaiten is a nice discovery !

  • This track has big emphasis on melodys that are weird and awsome. Rhythm is here just for feel. I think that is not Roland. It's famous older machine :)

  • @Jagged85 ...and was also the frontman of Happy End. :)

  • Youtubeは素晴らしい音楽の宝庫だ!

  • Osamu Hendrix. Awesome.

  • This is like the direct path to the Dharma
