PRIDE: London FACE Magazine article 1982 Ft Helen Adu, Stuart Mathewman, Paul Cooke & Paul Denman, Ray St John, Barbara Robinson and Nick Moxon on vocals. This one of the first press articles on Pride featuring the smaller group Sade that was formed as a scaled down part of the live act. The smaller group proved so popular that we decided to run with the group and abandoned the rest of the members in the future in favour of the smaller outfit as with ms Adu we where getting lots of record company attention. We called the band Sade after the singer and the rest is history. Andrew Hale wasn't a part of the original Sade group and joined in late 1983. Pride featured the song writing genius of Ray St John who wrote the original Smooth Operator song that made Sade famous. This song was originally called Diamond Life and Sade based the first album release on this title. So Ray St John's original song title for Smooth Operator was responsible for the album name choice. Ray St John was supposed to join the band Sade but it was decided that we would go with the image of the smaller group as that is what was appealing to the record companies and fans at the time. In fact so much so that myself, Paul and Stuart had our own title the Martini Boys.....Article from the FACE MAGAZINE1982.
